Eudora Light & Pro Troubleshooting

Eudora Light and Eudora Pro share the same technical support page because the layout and the solutions to the problems with each program are basically the same. So no matter which version you have, this tech support page should help you.

Problem: What exactly is the difference between Eudora Pro and Eudora Light, and why does the CD only contain the Light version and not Pro?

Solution: I'm sure there are a lot of little technical differences between the two programs, but I'm just going to tell you about the ones that will actually affect you. First of all, we include Eudora Light with the CD because it is the free version of Eudora, if we included Eudora Pro on the CD, we'd all be sent to jail for software piracy, and that's not a good way to conduct business. Now for the major differences you'll notice in the programs.

Eudora Light Eudora Pro
Price: Free 39.95 or 49.95
Number of Email Address it can handle: 1 936632.5 (that's a guess, but it's a lot)
Graphical Interface: Dull, Very Plain Nice Graphics and Layout
Spell Check No Yes

Now when you look at this chart, you're probably thinking to yourself that Eudora Pro is a LOT better. The only real downside to Eudora Pro is that it will cost you money. So if you like Eudora and you want more features with it, purchase the full copy. But if you're happy with what Eudora Light provides, then don't worry about it.

Problem: When I try to check my email, it says my username and password are invalid, how do I know if they're in there right?

Solution: To check your username and password, go up to your Special menu and select Settings. Click on the Getting Started icon on the left and make sure that your username is entered correctly, in all lowercase letters, in the blank labeled 'username'. Eudora should ask for your password when you try to check your mail and will give you an option to save the password. When entering the password, make sure you enter it in lowercase. If you've already saved the password, you can change it by going to the Special menu and selecting Change Password. If you check both these things and the error still comes up, try calling Customer Service to make sure the account is still active with the proper information.

Problem: It says it can't find the mail server when I try to send or recieve my email. Are you guys having problems down there?

Solution: The mail server is rarely down, so that is usually not the case for this error. Now don't take that the wrong way, just because it is rarely down, doesn't mean it never goes down. If you follow the steps here and it does not clear up the problem, call Tech Support and make sure that the server is still running properly. Go to the Special menu and select Settings. From here, click on Hosts on the left side. Make sure that both the Mail server and the SMTP server is set to mail.kconline.com in all lowercase. Another thing to check is to see if you're still online. You can check this easily by looking at the phone icon in your menu bar in the upper right. If the phone is off the hook, you're online, if it is on the hook, you are not online.

Problem: Whenever I try to send a message, I get an error that says "451 <email address> Domain must resolve.Check your e-mail client setup." What on earth does that mean?

Solution: This error comes up if your reply-to address does not match your email address. To fix this, go to your Special menu and select Settings. From here, click on the Getting Started icon on the left and make sure that your reply-to address is the same as your email address.

Problem: Someone sent me a file attachment, but everytime I open it, it doesn't do anything. What is wrong?

Solution: Most likely this attachment was sent from a PC user (it might have .exe on the end). If the file is a PC file, you won't be able to open it on your Macintosh. Now while this seems to be the bad side of owning a Macintosh right now, there is also a good way to look at it. File attachments are how email viruses are spread throughout the PC community. Many of the email viruses that are spread around, do not have cures yet. Since you are the lucky owner of a Macintosh, a PC virus will do nothing to you. Currently there are thousands of viruses for PC's and only around 100 for Mac (most of which are harmless). So next time one of your friends are trying as hard as they can to find a fix for the virus they downloaded, you can sit back and relax without worrying about things like that.

Problem: I constantly hear about new viruses that destroy computers and ruin everything on your computer. How do I know if I get one of these and how can I prevent it?

Solution: All of the 'computer destroying viruses' that you hear about, won't affect you at all. Why? Because you own a Macintosh. Any virus that a PC user can get, you are immune to. Now granted, there are a few viruses for the Macintosh, but only a couple are harmful, and all of the viruses have fixes available for them. So you won't have to worry about any of the thousands of dangerous PC viruses spreading around.

Problem: I have more questions what should I do?

Solutions: Eudora has a very good tech support section on their homepage. It can be found here: http://www.eudora.com/techsupport/lighttech.html.
