Problem: Why do you keep disconnecting me?
Solution: I know some people think that we're a big evil ISP that toys with it's users because no one can stop us. Sorry guys, we're pretty much the opposite. In fact, we don't disconnect people... ever. The only time that the server may disconnect people, is if it goes down or is having some type of trouble, in which case we get on the job and try to have it fixed as soon as possible. So if you are getting disconnected as soon as you log on, it's probably due to an outdated modem driver, or an INIT string is required.
Problem: So where can I get a newer modem driver?
Solution: Modem drivers can be obtained free of charge from your modem manufacturer's web page. They usually come with an easy to follow guide on how to install them too.
Problem: I get disconnected so quickly, I don't have time to get to their home page, so how do I obtain the driver?
Solution: Well since we're all nice guys down here, you can give tech support a call, tell them the kind of modem that you have and they can get a driver for you and mail it to you on a disk. That's pretty nice for a free tech support service.
Problem: Say I want to try an INIT string first, or the modem driver doesn't work, what do I do then?
Solution: To get a modem INIT string, you can either visit a web page full of them which is located on the Links page, or you can download a program that contains a database of modem INIT strings and that can be found on the Software Download page. You should only be looking for an INIT string if you're using FreePPP, since the new modem driver should work with PPP and Remote Access.
To Enter an INIT String:
In FreePPP, this blank can be found in the Modem Settings at the bottom of the screen.
